A native New Yorker, Silvana Gallardo has a resume that reads like the highlights of TV entertainment in the late ‘70s, the 1980s, and the 1990s. Grabbing her start in the uber-popular Starsky & Hutch television series in 1977 as Andrea Guiterrez, she moved on to Lisa Diaz in Kojak, Shewelah in How the West Was Won, Dr. Rita Silvera in Lou Grant in 1978 and 1979, Roberta Wanaka in Quincy M.E. in 1980, Mrs. Rodriguez in Hill Street Blues in 1982, a recurring role as Alicia Nunouz from 1981-1982 in Falcon Crest, Grace Lipton in Cagney & Lacey, Mrs. Rivera in Trapper John M.D. in 1984, The Emcee in The Golden Girls in 1986, Elena in MacGyver in 1986, Mrs. Mendez in L.A. Law in 1987, a regular role as Rosa Ramirez in daytime drama Days of Our Lives in 1988, a police officer on Knots Landing in 1989, Estella in Equal Justice in 1990, Maya Hernandez in Babylon 5 in 1994, Bertina in a 1998 episode of ER, and Mrs. Vasquez in 1999 and Mrs. Rojas in 2000 on NYPD Blue. Phew! No wonder she looks so familiar… The 5’7” dark-haired Silvana also made a handful of big-screen movies, including the western Windwalker (1980), comedy horror Out of the Dark (1988), and sci-fi thriller Solar Crisis (1990). She also appeared as Rosario in Death Wish II (1982), as a housekeeper who is attacked and killed along with the daughter of Paul Kersey, played by Charles Bronson, and becomes one of the reasons for his vigilante rampage. It’s Silvana’s only Mr. Skin entry, and a bit of a tough scene to watch since she’s killed in the process, but if you can ignore the bad parts, the lovely Silvana’s good parts are worth a look. It’s with great sadness we report Ms. Gallardo passed away in 2012.
